Angle the glacis

Every tanker has read the tip: angle your armor, sharp hits ricochet. It was a promise the steppe never kept. A dart into a Paladin's front either bit or broke up on the plate, and the broken ones still chipped paint off you. Not any more. The Paladin's glacis now leans back, and a nose held off the gun turns darts away.

The plink that never came

The front of a Paladin stops a Paladin's dart unless it hits nearly square. Swing fifteen degrees off and the plate reads too thick: the round shatters, you hear the clang, and it takes a bruise off your hull. That part worked. What never happened was the ricochet, the dart glancing off for nothing at all. The front plate stood upright, so however you angled, a dart met it too squarely to skip.

A plate that leans back

A real tank's front plate slopes back from the nose, and now the Paladin's does too. Head-on it's the same wall it always was: the same darts get through, the same ones shatter. But the slope and your angle add up. Turn her nose 35 to 50 degrees off the gun that's shooting at you and the dart meets the plate past 72 degrees, glances off, and flies on across the steppe. You read ricochet — armor held, and your hull bar doesn't move.

Nose swung 38 degrees off a Paladin 730 metres out: her first dart skates off the glacis.

Too far is worse than not at all

Past 50 degrees you've stopped angling and started showing your side, and a Paladin's side is about a third as thick as her front. A dart goes through it. So pick the gun that matters, put your nose 40 degrees off it, and watch your flanks: a second tank off the angle sees your side no matter how well you've set up on the first.

The glacis is the only plate that turns darts this way. The turret face stands upright, and a hit there doesn't care how the hull is turned. HEAT doesn't bounce either: a Jackal's recoilless round or a Warden's missile goes off on whatever it touches, so angling won't save you from them.

When your darts are the ones skating off

Now it happens to you too. If your rounds keep ricocheting off a Paladin's front, stop feeding it sabot there. Drive for the side, swap to HE (high explosive doesn't care about the slope, and it chips more off a plate your darts can't beat), or call artillery down on the roof.

The enemy crews read the same page. An AI gunner who watches two darts in a row skate off your nose stops wasting sabot on it and loads HE, which chips you through the slope for as long as you hold that angle. So angling buys you those first free bounces and a slower fight, not a free pass. Square up and it tries a dart again; swing your side round and it goes straight back to darts.
