The left thumb takes the tiller
Until today a phone tank went wherever it was pointing when it rolled out. The left thumb trained the turret, nothing on the glass reached the tracks, and the first treeline in the way was the end of the drive. Now the two thumbs trade jobs the way every tank game taught them to: left thumb steers, right thumb shoots.
Left thumb: the tiller
Put your left thumb anywhere on the left half of the screen, same as always. When you're crewing a hull, the stick now draws as a sideways rail with ◀ and ▶ at its ends, and the knob only slides port and starboard. Push it and the hull turns, just like holding A or D. A small push makes a gentle correction; all the way over is the hardest turn your tracks or rudder can manage. Let go and the hull straightens out.
Every hull answers in its own way. The Paladin pivots on the spot even from a standstill, and at speed it swings a full circle in about seven seconds. The Jackal carves wide at a gallop. Warships lean on the rudder slowly, and harder the more way they carry: a Dreadnought at a crawl barely drifts, while a Tachi at flank speed comes round smartly. When a tank backs up, the tiller steers like reversing a car.
Right thumb: the gun
In a hull, the right half of the screen now lays the gun. Drag anywhere on it and the sight moves with your thumb and stops where your thumb stops, while the turret swings round to chase it at its own traverse speed. Lift your thumb to hit FIRE and the aim holds where you left it.
Tap ZOOM and the same drag gets finer, scaled to each sight's magnification, so a small nudge moves the crosshair a fraction of a hull-length at a kilometre. At sea, dragging up and down through the binoculars walks the range out and in, and the ▲/▼ buttons still work. A stabilized gun like the Paladin's keeps its aim while the hull turns underneath it, so you can steer with one thumb and hold a target with the other.
The lever still drives
The slider on the left edge hasn't changed: it sets your speed and holds it. On a tank the bottom quarter is reverse. When HULL BLOCKED flashes, drag the lever into reverse, back off, and steer round the obstacle, a recovery a phone tank simply couldn't make before.
The lobby always said the left thumb steers. Now it does, on the Brick Steppe, on the Brick Sea, and on every hull of the combined-arms front. Roll out, find a fold in the ground, and turn your front plate to face the fight.
